Porcelain is known for being fine and elegant.

It's also very tough. For example, if you have a porcelain platter or plate you can cut onto it without marking it.

Over the past few years I've been asked to make several counter top wash basins, which has been a great opportunity to produce something that people see every day, several times a day and is so much more interesting than a plain white sink.

Uniquely decorated, they're thrown on a wheel like a normal bowl, but using much more clay and much thicker and sturdier than I'd usually do.

 

The surface is completely waterproof and easily kept clean with all of the usual cleaning products.

And no, the colours won't wash off!
